The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) is the world's non-profit association of aquatic Lifesavers and aquatic Lifesaving organizations.

The International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE) is the European branch of ILS. ILSE is an umbrella organisation, representing federations working in the field of Water Safety in Europe. Our members are representing more than 5 millions of Lifesavers and Lifeguards all over Europe. If you need specific information about Lifesaving in a particular nation, please contact our members or refer to the relevant website.

Through our own work and that of our member federations, we lead the global effort to reduce injury and death in, on or around the water. We aid in the global exchange of lifesaving information, promote the best lifesaving practices, help to establish lifesaving organizations in areas of Europe where they are needed, act as the European federation for lifesaving sport and work with other international bodies with similar goals.

ILSE Board of Directors Meeting in Lisbon 2018

The annual ILSE Board of Directors Meeting took place in May 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal, in a constructive and pleasant atmosphere, organised by ILSE Member FEPONS. Also the new Director of our Portuguese full member ISN Capitão-de-Fragata José António Velho Gouveia welcomed the participants in Lisbon.

Meeting of ILSE working group 'Disaster operations'

ILSE Working group 'Disaster operations' met last weekend in Bad Nenndorf, Germany.
14 experts from 8 ILSE Member countries discussed how to enhance the co-operation and interoperability in case of a flooding within the ILSE and exchange expertises, training methods and operational procedures.

The next meeting will take place in November 2018.

Annual Meetings of the ILSE Commissions

The meeting 2018 of the ILSE Commissions took place in Belgrade, Serbia,
March 9-11, organised by ILSE Member Red Cross of Serbia.

The meeting weekend started with the annual Best Practice Seminar: several speakers and experts of ILSE Members presented the newest information about drones in water rescue services and informed about the efforts, chances and problems to integrate refugees. The presentations were followed by a workshop to install and use national drowning statistics.
