The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) is the world's non-profit association of aquatic Lifesavers and aquatic Lifesaving organizations.

The International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE) is the European branch of ILS. ILSE is an umbrella organisation, representing federations working in the field of Water Safety in Europe. Our members are representing more than 5 millions of Lifesavers and Lifeguards all over Europe. If you need specific information about Lifesaving in a particular nation, please contact our members or refer to the relevant website.

Through our own work and that of our member federations, we lead the global effort to reduce injury and death in, on or around the water. We aid in the global exchange of lifesaving information, promote the best lifesaving practices, help to establish lifesaving organizations in areas of Europe where they are needed, act as the European federation for lifesaving sport and work with other international bodies with similar goals.

SLSGB became winner at the European Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Championships 2011

Surf Life Saving GB was again the host of this year’s European Inshore Rescue Boat Champs on Sunday 2nd October in Bournemouth on the south coast of England. The official opening ceremony was attended by The Worshipful The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Chris Rochester and President of the International Life Saving Federation of Europe, Dr Klaus Wilkens who gave a stirring address and kindly closed the championships for us at the end of the day.

First EU Partnership EQF Seminar “Safer Europe by higher qualified Lifeguards” in Constanta

ILSE organises a project for the promotion of the European Qualification Framework (EQF) and the improving of the standards of the qualification for lifeguards with a support out of the EU Leonardo da Vinci Programme. The ILSE Member Associations from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Spain and United Kingdom participate in this project and are supported by their national EU Agencies. The Seminars are open to all other ILSE Associations, which can send their participants to the seminars on their own expenses.

Italy became new European Champion 2011 in Alicante / Spain

Twenty National Teams took part at the European Championships for the Open Class in Alicante (Spain). Italy could win with only 6 points difference to France, which became second. The third place claimed Germany 30 points behind the winner.

Under 62 Interclub teams became Rane Rosse Aquasport (Italy) with 502,5 points the best club team and European Champion of Interclubs.
