The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) is the world's non-profit association of aquatic Lifesavers and aquatic Lifesaving organizations.

The International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE) is the European branch of ILS. ILSE is an umbrella organisation, representing federations working in the field of Water Safety in Europe. Our members are representing more than 5 millions of Lifesavers and Lifeguards all over Europe. If you need specific information about Lifesaving in a particular nation, please contact our members or refer to the relevant website.

Through our own work and that of our member federations, we lead the global effort to reduce injury and death in, on or around the water. We aid in the global exchange of lifesaving information, promote the best lifesaving practices, help to establish lifesaving organizations in areas of Europe where they are needed, act as the European federation for lifesaving sport and work with other international bodies with similar goals.

Meeting of the ILSE working group 'Disaster Operations and Civil Protection'

The first meeting of the new formed ILSE working group ‘Disaster Operations and Civil Protection’ took place from July 23rd – 26th in Bad Nenndorf, Germany. The Head of the working group Hans-Hermann Höltje (Germany) welcomed the group members from Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Serbia and the United Kingdom. He also welcomed the Honorary Life-President Dr. Klaus Wilkens and the Chair of ILSE Rescue Commission Ortwin Kreft.

ILSE Board of Directors Meeting 2015

The annual and well organised ILSE Board of Directors Meeting took place May 1st – 3rd, 2015, in Agya Napa, Cyprus, in a pleasant atmosphere. ILSE Board Members discussed about several topics regarding Water Safety in Europe.
The Board of Directors decided about the applications of the Commissions. So ILSE recommends that workers and recreationalists operating in, on or near water consider the use of appropriate PFD’s. The Board discussed the procedure to update the strategic planning for the next term of office and agreed a paper about a scientific council in ILSE.
