Lifesaving Session at the 3rd European Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Budapest June 2011

The 3rd European injury prevention conference is a major international event bringing stakeholders in the prevention of accidents and injuries from Europe and other continents to exchange, debate and discuss the latest results in injury research, policies and practices.

A special breakout session about water safety, the prevention of drowning and lifesaving will be part of the EuroSafe Conference.


The 3rd European injury prevention conference is a major international event bringing stakeholders in the prevention of accidents and injuries from Europe and other continents to exchange, debate and discuss the latest results in injury research, policies and practices.

A special breakout session about water safety, the prevention of drowning and lifesaving will be part of the EuroSafe Conference.

The conference is being organised by EuroSafe and the Hungarian Ministry of National Resources of the Republic of Hungary and will be held in Budapest, June 16th and 17th, 2011. The conference will be co-sponsored by the European Commission, WHO Regional Office for Europe and the Hungarian government, by then also serving the presidency of the European Council.

The Third European Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion will report on successful injury prevention policies and assist participants in benchmarking progress as regards the implementation of these action plans. The conference will highlight available evidence based interventions and address the challenges of implementation and the transfer of good practices in less resources environments and in particular in new Member States.

The President of ILSE Dr. Klaus Wilkens will rule a special breakout session about water safety, the prevention of drowning and lifesaving. Secretary General Dr. Detlev Mohr (Germany), the Chairman of the Rescue Commission Martin O’Sullivan (Ireland), the member of the Education Commission Dr. Tomasz Zalewski (Poland) and the member of the Management and Administration Commission Eric Bech (Denmark) will present reports.

The conference objectives are
• to offer a forum for the exchange of experiences in implementing and monitoring national action plans for injury prevention in Member States, with a view to benchmark policies and their outcomes;
• to highlight successful safety promotion initiatives and actions as evidenced through the various European collaborative projects, to encourage the uptake of good practices and to facilitate their implementation in particular in New Member States;
• to highlight opportunities and challenges to mainstream injury prevention and safety promotion into relevant policy domains; and to
• to enhance the involvement of relevant stakeholders within countries (i.e. government, civil society, private sector and academia) and to foster sustainable and collaborative commitments as to actions for injury prevention and safety promotion in Member States.
