ILSE Board Meeting in Dublin

The ILSE Board Meeting 2011 was organised by the Irish ILSE Member, the Irish Water Safety, in a very harmonic atmosphere in the Bewleys Hotel in Dublin, 24th – 26th June 2011. It was a great honour, that the Lord Mayor of Dublin welcomed the delegates and attended the dinner in the Fire Restaurant of the Mayor’s Mansion House in downtown Dublin.

Nineteen of the twenty Board Members, the four Commission Chairmen and the three Advisors were present. It was the first time that the Board was nearly complete.

The President and Secretary General reported about the activities in the last year and the ILS Board and Commission meetings in Egypt and Vietnam. The Board members presented the latest news of their federations.

Main topics on the agenda were

– the successful application for funds out of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme for the European Qualification Framework seminars and the activities in this project
– applications submitted by the ILSE Commissions concerning
– the definition of swimming,
– the beach risk assessments,
– the strategic planning in ILSE,
– the development aid activities and training courses,
– the change of the programme of future European Championships and
– the next European Championships.

These will be

– the European Championships for Juniors 2011 in Copenhagen (Denmark),
– the European Championships 2011 in Alicante (Spain),
– the European Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Championships 2011 in Bournemouth (UK),
– the European Championships for Juniors 2012 in Jönköping (Sweden) and
– the European Championships 2013 in The Netherlands.

The ILSE Board of Directors decided also about the closing of the ILSE account 2010 and the budget 2012 as well as about resignations and nominations of commission members.

The ILSE Board awarded the following persons with the ILSE Certificate of Merit:
– Boris Donda (Switzerland)
– Dr. Sanja Mazic (Serbia)
– Gheorghe Oancea (Romania)
– Inkilap Obruk (Turkey)
– Dr. Todor Popov (Bulgaria)
– Giuseppe Andreana (Italy).

Henri Voorhelst (Belgium) was honoured with the DLRG Certificate of Merit in Gold for his long standing support and co-operation in lifesaving activities with the DLRG.

Representatives of the Irish Government, the Mayor of the county and friends of partner organizations as well as of Irish Water Safety participated in the official dinner at Saturday evening with traditional Irish music.

The President thanked IWS and especially Chairman Frank Nolan and CEO John Leech for the perfect organisation of the meetings and the side program. Frank Nolan was honoured with the DLRG Certificate of Merit in Gold with Diamond for his long standing support and co-operation in lifesaving activities with the DLRG.
